Finished October 2017. Particularly old and beautiful maple, from an estate. Oil varnished, personal recipe. Orange-brown color, the varnish is somewhat darker than it appears in the photos, especially the top plate.
This 1717 Domenico Montagnana model has very impressive acoustical potential and is one of my personal favorites for this reason. In the early 1700’s, Venetian violin making was consistently inspired by Jacob Steiner’s style, as this pattern shows.
